Especially when you are out with friends. It is a real turn off to see couples acting like lovesick puppies in public - there is a place and a time, people! Most men I have dated have been like this. Sometimes couples go too far with the PDA and it is downright disrespectful. Drives me crazy! And quite frankly, I prefer things that way. I don't think I have a "problem" just because I prefer to display acts of physical affection in private. In fact, I think it makes things better. When you have spent a night out with friends my boyfriend and I usually can't wait to get home and get stuck into each other! Let alone snuggling while you're waiting to cross the street. Even the holding of hands to me seems quite childish.

Give it some more time. I wouldn't rule the guy out yet. There doesn't seem to be a sure sign that he's not interested.

So do yourself a favor and talk yourself out of this...or just keep her as a FWB and enjoy her company and time with her, but keep dating and your options open, definitely don't put all your eggs in one basket, and IF you feel you are becoming too attached and caring and believing and sympathizing with all her sad stories...you're going to find yourself in trouble, I can almost guarantee it.

As for a real drastic shift, we probably won't be around when it happens. But there's no doubt that the shift will continue to slowly occur over the years. The shift has already been ongoing for the past 15-20 years.
