He might not want to commit because he's waiting for his friends to offer him something bigger and better for the night but that's a piss off itself. It's being held at a big event center where they have DJ's perform and stuff.

Maybe he's met another girl and is dating her, is not sure where it's going, is still in contact with you, but has realised that he is in LDR with you and much as he likes you no longer wants the LDR situation to continue - my instinct tells me someone/something has caught his interest and is taking up his time. It sounds like there was a connection on both sides and that he wanted to make sure that he didn't lose you.
