Well, until you cut off contact with him and lose the 'hung up' feelings, of course you won't be ready to care for anyone else. Your other problem is that you say you are 'hung up' on the ex. It's too facile to blame 'niceness' as the problem. It's not true that there's nothing wrong with him - if he's not for you than something is wrong.
